MISSION
We engage in exchanges, training, research, and public events to support organizations, institutions, and government bodies in their efforts to improve the health and environment of the citizens of both the U.S. and Russia.
Exchanges and Partnerships between Schools
Tula has long been known for its work with metals. Famous for its samovars, the city became known under Soviet times for the weapons it produced. This often meant that the air, water, and soil were contaminated with heavy metals that continue to create human health hazards. Over the last few years, the Alliance has hosted scientists and policy makers from Tula who work on environmental health issues, including heavy metal contamination of soils and water and the more specific problem of lead contamination in children.
It is anticipated that these exchanges will lead to research collaborations that involve faculty and students around issues of mutual interest. It is through collaboration that we are able to reduce international tensions and build strong relationships across borders to improve the health and well being of those in both communities.
